I'm excited about a new print I just made from one of my pigeon photos! I caught this image a while ago, of a pigeon couple affectionately preening by the side of the lake I visit. Like swans and geese, pigeons choose a mate for life, and are very affectionate partners to each other.
I decided to try something different in the printing choices for this image. I had bought a supply of beautiful rag paper a while back - it's 100% cotton, acid-free, and is hand-made in India. The paper has a lovely torn looking edge to it, and it's embedded with pressed leaves/petals and stems in a haphazard fashion. The weight of the paper is 150 gsm and it's surprisingly tough, hard to tear intentionally, much less accidentally.
So I decided to use this paper as its own finished support for the image print, looping a lovely rustic twine through it as a hanging string, tied in bows on the front.
The paper size is 7 x 8 inches and the image size is 4 x 6 inches.
I printed my pigeon image in old-timey sepia tones and added a romantic quote about being special to someone who loves you. This rustic and charming "card you can hang" would make a lovely Valentine's card and gift all-in-one, but would be nice to give (or have for yourself) any old time of year!
